In the rush of school drop-offs, meal prep, and bedtime routines, it’s incredibly easy to be physically present with our children while being mentally miles away. I recently completed a refreshing 4-day devotional plan on the Bible App called “Mindful Parenting,” and it was a powerful reminder to slow down and notice the sacred in the ordinary.

Awareness in the Chaos

Mindfulness is often talked about, but this plan beautifully grounds the concept in Scripture. It’s about more than just “calming down”; it’s about becoming aware of God’s presence in our homes and being truly attentive to the children He has placed in our care.

The devotional challenged me to move away from “distracted parenting”—where my phone or my to-do list gets my best attention—and move toward a posture of intentional observation and listening.

Responding vs. Reacting

One of the key takeaways from these four days was the shift from reacting out of frustration to responding with grace. When we are mindful, we create a small space between a child’s behavior and our response. In that space, we can choose words that build up rather than tear down, reflecting the way God patiently responds to us.

Finding God in the Small Moments

This plan reminded me that God is just as present in a messy kitchen or a difficult conversation as He is in a church service. By being mindful, we teach our children that our faith isn’t just something we “do” on Sundays—it’s the lens through which we see and love them every single day.

If you feel like life is moving too fast and you’re missing the “heart” of your home, I highly recommend this short study. It’s a wonderful way to recalibrate your focus.
